Windsurfing sails
Wavescape Vs Purelip | Tech Talk Ep. 16
While both Wavescape and Purelip are designated as wave sails, there are quite a few differences in build and function.
In this episode, Monty Spindler compares both Loftsails designs.

Loftsails Slalom vs Foil Sail Design | TechTalk Ep.2
I have been sailing Oxygens since they were introduced as O2's! No better designed slalom sail that can dump excess wind when overpowered. I can sail one to two sizes larger than everyone else on the water and not have to come in when the wind drops a couple miles per hour. As for durability... I'm pretty meticulous about taking care of my gear and average about 45 sessions per season for each of my 6.3 and 6.8 sails and if I they last 3 years I would be ecstatic but sadly the windows will tear in less time. My just replaced 6.8 exploded the main window while down hauling! A first in my 44 yrs of sailing. So even though it is a 6.8 I went with full xply this time. I can report that my 5.8 and 5.3 full xply Oxygens have lasted for many years but then they are only used a hand full of times per season. There is no better non-race sail on the market. To bad I always have to order from Europe and pay high shipping costs to sail on them in the US.
Is that sail good for freeride equipped with a 115-L board and 1700 cm2 cruiser foil? or you suggest something else.
Since you are mentioning cruising, perhaps Skyscape could be a better option.
Genio
MONTHY SPINDLER, you are like KING GIORGIO ARMANI… one of the few sailmakers left… you are a genius.
Wow. Everything thought out and studied in the smallest details... nothing is left to chance. I would love to see a video of the tests, modifications, and improvements to the sails. MONTHY SPINDLER, genius!"
MONTHY SPINDLER, you are a genius and your sails are beautiful as well as durable.
My guy
Well i love youre sails ... well done
Brilliant
I gotta do this before I die
I loved a barrel roll myself
Loved a good forward
Love full tilt sailing
I remember boxy rails and racing
Mine is brilliant
My favourite sail was a loft
Perfect timing 🤙
Best colours award for sure!
And the winner is: Wavescape (my personal opinion)
I have a 2021 wavescape 5.7. That sail hast a great stability even in overpowered conditions and qualitywise it is top. Monty, I know you read me, after three seasons THE LOGO is almost half way washed off! The material underneath is still as new (I always rinse it)
Thank you for your kind feedback:) Monty will read your comment, we will make sure of that:)
loft the best brand
Either let Monty talk, or play annoying music, but please not at the same time.
Lessons learned:)
Top Sail, bought several !
Excellent !
Moin Monty
I think this is a 10 for sail design. I stopped buying sail designs who went from 2 eyelids to just 1 especially in freerace super important, for elite slalom. But you nailed it here the upper eyelid should be best for these ultra lightwind days to get going now you can scoop more wind in it and get on the plane a lot quicker. Well done.
The testing on a truck does not work because when windsurfing, there is less wind over the water surface and more higher up. The reason why sails always need some twist. Which is not the case on a truck. So any test result becomes pretty much useless.
That is why these kind of tests were done back in the day:)
@@Loftsails FCS was testing side fins on surfboards in a water flow tunnel. Without taking into account the effect of the board, with the rider on it, to the water flow underneath. Making the whole test useless and even misleading. Similar to the sail on a truck testing. Windsurfing is pretty difficult to mimic in a artificial setting with all the flexing going on. So the only way is practice testing. In flat water you can do this quite OK with 2 equal riders, in wave sailing even that gets difficult.
@@BoukeBecker In the end it's about collecting data and pattern recognition. It is not really an issue of mimicking a windsurfer, but more in line with facilities required + budget constrains as well as overall necessity for such endevarous research. But we do agree with you on the value of practise testing:)
It's not funboarding if you have a daggerboard
Valid point!
Late on the ball here but is the board a regular longboard skateboard and if so are the trucks also regular skateboard trucks where the wheels have been replaced with metalic skates? Would like to know since that seems to be an easy way to make an DIY iceboard 😊
Better late than never:) If you want, we can get you in touch with these guys and they will be happy to assist. Drop us an email: support@equipe-trading.com
@@Loftsails Thanks a lot for the reply and winter is far away so no worries. Actually I have been windfoiling today in the warm and sunny wheather we have in Sweden right now. I will for sure drop you an e-mail asap.
@@allanasp771 Good one:) Hopefully this summer will be windy!
Anytime i see these i think of trasure planet and the solar sail
Isit the skyscape?
I've come to enjoy your RUclips channel but why Monofilm on this sail? You discuss your opinion of monofilm in the Loftsails Sail Materials video (3:50) and I couldn't agree more. I've been using Severne Foil Glide sails and my 7M just died after two years of sailing, specifically the monofilm panel. It turned into a potato chip and as you say the rest of the sail is in good working order but the monofilm is shot and the sail is garbage. I will never buy another Severne sail as they use monofilm on so many of their sails. I'm a big fan of Ezzy sails (Cheetahs) due the durability and excellence of their sails. (Dave agrees with you 100% regarding monofilm.) I'm replacing my Foils Glides with Ezzy Cross sails. My 6M and 8M will both probably fail this summer but my new 6.7 Ezzy Cross will probably outlast me. Thanks for the great information and videos and though I've never sailed a Loft Sail, I'm impressed.
Monty, you are working really hard just like when you were in ART HK. The 11 years that we worked together was amazing.
I can't swim.😢
Great video and love this concept! Interesting to get an insight of how Monty works.
Great Info, thanks for sharing 🤙
I like all the tech-talks. Very interesting.
💕 Wow💚💚💙💚💙💙💙
Great to see you doing what you love!
Thanks for sharing this mate! I am starting to learn how design and build windsurfing sails, it's not like they teach this in school!
If you need any adise, we are here:)
Is it raining? leaky roof? 7:16 Can you do a material one on the wavesail?
Youre a gentleman as wellas a genius.
Thank you for your contribution. a true legend
When people do the thing Day by Day,we could find out the products which is bettering!
I worked with Monty in 80 year in HK and he is very enthusiastic in Windsurfing Design and he is the King Designer now not only the Design as well as his experience and workmanship,he could sew the sails.
These are super kind words! Thank you!
Monty you are already the king of windsurfing sails!
What are pretty design from King of Windsurfers!
Think in 3D. They're quite beautiful to behold.
"The curves that animate rigs"
I started windsurfing in 1980 or 1979. I can´t remember exactly. Since then the sportsgear has developed rapidly, but especially the sails. The 1980ies were a crazy and fast period. I remember Mr Spindler with his bizarre cutaway design and his idea of taking out the pressure from the leech. Thats exactly how every sail looks like and works today. Very wise and very far ahead. Nowadays it is the evolutionary process he describes. I´ve just orderd a new set of purelips and can´t wait to ride them. The body is old, but the spirit is still alive, thanks for your passion
